Winter fly fishing demands a little timing and planning on your part. Bass fishermen will commonly tell you that it is better to fish a combination of both cover and structure. Some areas allow only lakes to be fished year round, some only allow rivers, but most places will allow something to be fished year round.
Cover is the main thing to a bass if it thinks that another fish can spot him out and see him he will move to better cover. I suggest going to the sporting goods department of your local big box retailer and purchasing one of the rod and reel combos they offer. While you're fishing, remember to keep your worms are right there at your fingertips, ready to use.
